INSECT GIRLS - WHOOP HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2026

A few weeks ago, the Insect Girls appeared at Whoop Heritage Festival as part of a character trail across the park.
After finding the characters and following their prompts, kids and families started creating their own artworks, collages and colouring new Bambas and Dotties.
Seeing people interact with the world in their own way was probably my favourite part of the festival.
But the Insect Girls actually started in a very different way…
I was walking in the park once and got stung by a bee or wasp or something.
Had an allergic reaction, my arm was covered in red lumps and I ended up at the chemist… annoying!
I remember thinking: why do we even need insects anyway?
That moment somehow stayed with me and later led me into researching insects more. The more I looked into them, the more fascinated I became by how small but important they are.
That eventually inspired me to create the Insect Girls.
They first appeared as part of an animated mural / projection mapping show and have continued evolving into different forms across Mini Gabi World.
I always like turning bad experiences into stories and characters.
Now I’m almost glad I got stung?
LOVE TO share the lovely video of the beautiful festival!!!... The Insect Girls at the Alpaca Farm location!!
